  1. Peter Cooper about 21 hours later:

Ooh this is an interesting commitment to the record.. hope other people fill this in :)

From looking back at my archives.. start of December 2004, started working with it professionally (and unprofessionally!). TextMate #1072 in March 2005. Can’t remember when I bought AWDR but I got it in PDF only and haven’t really read it. Started both of my successful Rails projects in early & mid 2005 (Code Snippets and Feed Digest), sold them both last summer, haven’t really done any Rails since then (Merb’s way better) but probably will have to at some point.

Looks like if the serials run in order, 4126 copies of TextMate were sold in 10 months then. That’s like $200k+? Nice work to that guy, he deserves it.

  2. Ben 1 day later:

Allan Odgaard (of TextMate) definitely deserves the reward for creating such a great piece of software. I’m continually finding it more helpful to work with thanks to all the keyboard shortcuts and ‘bundles’. Since I’m using it pretty much daily now the small purchase price is nothing.

  3. Alan Bradburne 6 days later:

    TextMate # 1301 (28 April ‘05) here.

However, worked with Rails using vi for a long time before that – started playing with the first release back in July ‘04, started seriously working with Rails in about Dec ‘04. Bought the original beta PDF of AWDR when first released but never really used it either.

Couldn’t agree more with you about TextMate. Allan has done (and continues to do) a fine job.
