With the price of MacBook Pros (Core Duo) dropping after the release of the updated Core 2 Duo I could resist no more. After a week of ownership I am super happy… there is a very noticeable hike in performance over my previous PowerBook G4. It certainly runs hotter than the PowerBook – I’d hesitate to use it on my lap, but apart from that it’s all good. Coding Rails was never so fast!

MacBook Pro 15.4” 2.16Ghz Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM, 100GB HDD

After a few weeks of living with the MacBook Pro I’m still a huge fan (it’s even made Time Magzine’s gadget of the year 2006). One thing I’ve noticed is that the laptop really does get very hot – even when going into sleep the fans stay on for an age trying to cool it down. It’s not a major problem, just slightly concerning.

I’m now thinking of getting an iCurve laptop stand for maximum ventilation combined with a nice fat (20” or bigger) monitor to use with it (extended desktop mode). I’d really like an Apple 30” Cinema display, but that might be a little too pricey!
